Tibetan Cultural Society of British Columbia
NEW ARRIVAL
THE TIBETAN CULTURE SOCIETY OF B.C AND PROJECT TIBETAN SOCIETY ARE WORKING TOGETHER TO SPONSOR THE TIBETAN NEWCOMERS IN CANADA
The Government of Canada is facilitating the immigration to Canada of up to 1,000 Tibetans living in the state of Arunachal Pradesh in India, at the request of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Canada's Tibetan community. We are thankful to the Canadian Government for supporting and fast-tracking the permanent residency of the Tibetans from Arunachal Pradesh and providing them with the invaluable path to Canadian citizenship. However, no funding of any kind is being provided. All costs to support the Tibetan newcomers must come from private donations of generous Canadians like you.
The newly incorporated ProJect Tibet Society ("PTS") is overseeing the program. With Tibetan Cultural Associations like The Tibetan Cultural Society of B.C (TCSBC), Tibet supporters, along with faith groups across Canada, PTS has now established local committees to oversee the program which ends in 2016. By contributing to TCSBC today in our sponsorship of Tibetan newcomers you will be giving them an opportunity for a new life in Canada.

AN OPPORTUNITY TO HELP
Please consider partnering with our organization or other non-profit and faith groups to support the resettlement of up to 200 Tibetan newcomers into B.C. alone.
Visit our How to help the Tibet Resettlement Project page to let us know how you would like to help and support a Tibetan Newcomer.
Despite India's historical help with Tibetan refugees by providing resettlement services, special schools, and land, Tibetans are still registered as foreigners with their status having to be renewed every 6 to 12 months. Tibetans are in effect, "stateless" and a more durable solution is needed for Tibetans to thrive. The future is also uncertain for those living in Arunachal Pradesh because it is disputed territory between India and China.
Canadians are a generous people and supporting the sponsorship of Tibetan newcomers to go from the challenges of a life of hardship and "statelessness" to a new life and path to Canadian citizenship is a tremendous act of generosity. With sponsorship support, these Tibetans will be allowed to come into Canada under the agreement between PTS and Citizenship and Immigration Canada.
